Kids Reading To Kids
program at
Tyler Elementary School in
Washington DC. A Kids Reading to Kids
program was demonstrated on a limited basis in the
Spring of 2005. Download a
video documentary of this project. The Tyler
experience in the Spring of 2005 was the
inspiration for the Kids Reading To Kids
book: The Tyler
Story. In the Fall of 2005, Tyler Elementary (www.tylerschool.org)
began a full year-long Kids Reading To Kids
program. This project will be documented in
a future Kids Reading To Kids book to
be released in early 2007.
The first all-Spanish Kids Reading to Kids
program began at
Llorens
Torres Elementary School in Spring 2006. This
has led to a continuing Kids Reading to Kids
program for television now in program development
for WAPA America.

Kids Reading To Kids
sponsors the first Kids Reading to Kids
after-school program
for kids at John Tyler Elementary School. The kids
took the action to name this project "VOICE" as in
giving them a voice. The program includes kids in
kindergarten through grade 6 all working in an
integrated, nurturing environment. Two teachers and
several volunteers supervise this kid-centric
project. Progress to date has been exceptional and
the transformation of the kids reinforces the value
of the Kids Reading to Kids concepts. The typical
day (two hour and 45 minutes) includes:
 | Homework and reinforcement of
skills |
 | Kids Reading to Kids |
 | Snack |
 | Literacy circles with novel
packets |
 | Recreation, drama, music and arts
and crafts |
Fridays are reserved for field
trips and community service.
